Given 可作介词使用，其后续需跟宾语（不能是副词、副词短语，但可以跟从句，如果是接从句的情况，则可以将其视作连词），用以引出条件状语，所表达的含义是“考虑到……”。
应用于 given (that) …的形式时，其为从属连词，意为“如果，假设” 。
Given 也可用作名词（可数），意为“基本事实；铁定的事实” 。
Given 用作形容词时，意为“特定的” 。
We've been given a 2% pay increase.
