1、语义有所不同。Hand out 有三个意思，分别是拿出、分发和施舍。give out 的意思包括分发、发出（光、气味、热等）、公布以及用完、耗尽和精疲力竭。

例如：She held her hand out flat, to halt him. 她伸出一只手，想要拦住他。

又如：There were people at the entrance giving out leaflets. 入口处有人在分发传单。

2、两者都有分发的意思，但 give out 更多指发出（气味、光线、声音、信号、热等）；而 hand out 则更多指发出去、分发，同时也有施舍的含义。

例如：The rotten eggs give out a bad smell. 那些腐坏的鸡蛋发出一股臭味。

又如：I rustle up a few helper to hand out leaflet. 我找了几个助手来发传单。

3、当做分发的意思时，两者的主语不同。hand out 是人作主语，意思是“上交、交出、分发”；give out 则是物作主语，意思是“发出、散发”。

例如：The radio is giving out a strange signal. 收音机正在发出一种奇怪的信号。

又如：I have to make some copy to hand out. 我需要复印一些文件以便分发。
